Work Motivation and Neurotic Perfectionism as Predictors of Workaholism

The basic goal of this research was to examine which aspects work motivation and perfectionism predict workaholism, in order identify potential risk factors. Workaholism is defined as an internal need excessively that damages our health psychosocial well-being, leading long-term exhaustion inefficacy. Intrinsic stems from the feeling satisfaction inherent doing work-related tasks using professional competencies, whereas extrinsic external rewards, a other needs through work. basis neurotic lies constant discrepancy between goals person has set what achieved, can lead chronic dissatisfaction. following instruments were used: almost Perfect Scale, Work intrinsic scale, Bergen Addiction Scale. sample consisted 109 participants, workers Republika Srpska area, aged 21 55. Most female participants (75.24%). results Kolmogorov-Smirnoff tests show participants' scores on all examined variables are distributed normally. fact workaholism moderately present opposite original expectations highlights further prevalence phenomenon general working population. predictive model whole statistically significant (F(5,103)=5.01,p<0.00) predicts 16% variance. However, only component positive predictor but not or motivation. suggest originate efforts perfectionistic persons overcome their perceived failures achieving unrealistically high goals. It possible that, time, obsessive becomes means avoid dealing with negative emotions towards themselves, also way excuse themselves real irrational (“I did achieve my goal, I worked really hard will keep trying”).
